More Than Just Growing Vegetables
Based at the world-famous Eden Project in Cornwall, People and Gardens is much more than a horticultural initiative. It's a community project that provides people with physical disabilities and emotional challenges the opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence and become part of a supportive working environment.
From sowing the first seeds and nurturing young plants to harvesting, weighing and packing fresh produce, participants are involved in every stage of the growing process. It's hands-on, rewarding work that gives people a real sense of purpose and achievement.
And their hard work has certainly paid off!
The project has grown into a successful supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables for the Eden Project's kitchens. But with success came a new challenge: how to keep increasing quantities of freshly harvested produce in the best possible condition before they reached the chefs.
That's where Coolworld came in.
Finding the Right Solution, Not Just Any Solution
With fresh produce being harvested regularly, People and Gardens needed a reliable, temperature-controlled storage solution that would protect the quality of their fruit and vegetables.
However, there were a few hurdles to overcome.
Like many community projects, People and Gardens was working within a tight budget. The site also had limited electrical infrastructure, meaning a standard refrigerated container installation wasn't necessarily going to be suitable.
Rather than expecting the customer to work around the equipment, our team focused on finding a solution that worked for them.
The answer was to adapt one of our Grade A refrigerated containers with a new single-phase power unit, allowing it to operate within the site's available electrical supply.
This approach meant People and Gardens could benefit from high-quality, dependable cold storage without unnecessary expense or costly changes to their existing infrastructure.
Better still, our team delivered the solution within the project's required timeframe, ensuring the growing operation could continue with minimal disruption.
Going the Extra Mile, From Start to Finish

When our driver, arrived at Watering Lane Nursery to deliver the refrigerated container, he brought more than just the equipment. He brought a smile, a positive attitude and a determination to make sure everything went smoothly.
Despite the challenges involved in the delivery, he took the time to help the team get everything into place, making what could have been a stressful experience an enjoyable one.
His approach left such an impression that People and Gardens took the time to send us a heartfelt message of thanks.
