Fresh Flowers During Peak Season

When the wildflowers bloom in the spring, it’s peak season at flower importer Coloríginz. Especially around Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, the flower company’s cold storage rooms are bursting at the seams. To keep incoming and outgoing shipments super fresh during the busiest months of the year, Coloríginz needed additional cooling capacity. Coolworld temporarily expanded Coloríginz’s logistics space with two refrigerated containers so that the flowers could be delivered to customers in top-notch condition.

Top-quality flowers

Coloríginz imports flowers from more than 40 different countries. When the flowers arrive, they are stored temporarily before being inspected and distributed as quickly as possible, either in water or in boxes, to customers such as retailers and wholesalers.

Although Coloríginz already has substantial refrigerated storage capacity, additional cooling is needed during the spring peak season. Coolworld ensures that Coloríginz’s flowers remain in top condition even during the busiest months of the year.

To keep fresh flowers in top condition, they must be stored at a constant temperature of 4°C.

“You need a lot of helping hands to get all those flowers through the greenhouse. This is a continuous process. Everything has to run smoothly. You need enough people and enough space; everything is important,” says Cock van der Hoorn of Coloríginz.

“During the first four or five months of the year, we receive a huge volume of flowers,” says Van der Hoorn. “Especially in the run-up to holidays like Valentine’s Day, Easter, Pentecost, and Mother’s Day, we sometimes receive multiple shipments at once. Then it’s a challenge to fit everything into our cold storage. By the time you realize you have a problem, it’s already too late. That’s why you have to act early to stay ahead of any potential issues. Our sister company, Holex, had good experiences with Coolworld.
