CNC Exotic Mushrooms Navigates Peak Season with Ease Thanks to Coolworld’s Flexible Cooling Solution

CNC Exotic Mushrooms produces substrate for exotic edible mushrooms. This growing medium, made from sawdust and nutrients, forms the basis for mushroom cultivation.

“Heat is released as this growing medium develops because of the fungi growing in the substrate,” explains Maarten Reuken, Site Manager at CNC Exotic Mushrooms. “Despite these biochemical processes, the temperature in the hall must remain stable between 20 and 22°C. Otherwise, the core of the substrate can become too warm, causing damage and reducing product quality. A stable climate is therefore essential, which means the area where the substrate matures must be conditioned precisely.”

CNC Exotic Mushrooms already operates several climate-controlled halls. However, to meet peak demand, the company wanted to use an additional hall from July 2024 for several months, even though this space was not normally climate controlled.

For this hall of more than 20,000 m³, Coolworld provided the ideal solution. Coolworld’s specialists carefully calculated the required cooling capacity and matched it to the heat generated by the substrate during the maturation process.

Coolworld installed a 500 kW chiller together with three LT05 air handling units to maintain a stable temperature throughout the hall. These units provide a powerful air throw of up to 40 metres, helping distribute the cooled air evenly throughout the space.
