Heuer Logistics faced the challenge of storing imported early-season potatoes from Egypt at a constant temperature of 5 degrees to ensure they maintained their quality. Due to a lack of space and rising temperatures from April through June, the already cool warehouses had to be additionally air-conditioned.

Additional summer air conditioning for a logistics company in Bremerhaven

To address limited space and provide a fast cooling solution for the temporary storage of imported early potatoes, even during high summer temperatures, a temporary rental solution was required for two months.

Coolworld supplied a 300 kW chiller with a buffer tank and pump, installed outdoors. Inside the warehouses, six 27 kW air-conditioning units were installed, two in each hall, to maintain a constant temperature of 5°C across all three storage areas.

Customer challenges

Imported early potatoes from Egypt had to be kept at the required temperature of 5°C. In addition, the cooling capacity of the company’s available storage halls was insufficient for temporary potato storage during the summer months.

To prevent the imported early potatoes from sprouting or, in the worst case, spoiling, they must be kept at a constant temperature of 5°C before onward transport.

Flexibility was essential

The rapid installation and flexible use of the available halls for temporary storage enabled reliable cooling of the early potatoes at the required temperature of 5°C.
